YEM is creating opportunities for farmers to meet informally and share concerns and ideas about environmental issues and how to deal with the challenges they face. By better understanding the needs of farmers alongside the needs of nature, we aim to encourage practical nature-based solutions that meet the needs of both.

Expert consultations on farm that combine an understanding of farming systems and farm businesses with land and water management to improve wildlife habitats and species conservation whilst also improving soil quality and reducing surface water run-off. A report on the value of the habitats that already exist and what changes could be made will help farmers improve biodiversity, water and soil quality on farm and within the catchment.

Working with the Catchment Sensitive Farming Officer and Farming in a Protected Landscape (FiPL), YEM seeks funding for the initial advisory on farm visits which identifie nature-friendly opportunities together with grants available to support implementation. For example, reducing water pollution by fencing off watercourses and providing water troughs and pipework, creating new hedgerows and planting well-placed trees to help provide shelter and shade for stock, as well as minimising soil erosion and run-off.
